Katerina Kyselica Participates in „The World Is a Handkerchief“ Project
23.5. 2019 - 4.6. 2019
London Print Studio Gallery, 425 Harrow Road, London W10 4RE UK
May 23 – June 4
We are pleased to invite you to London to a presentation of an international collaborative project “The World is a Handkerchief,” in which Katerina Kyselica participates. The project features a collection of handkerchiefs which explore notions of homeland, family, displacement, and identity. 52 handkerchiefs will be exhibited at London Print Studio Gallery from May 23–June 4, and continue as a traveling exhibition in 2020. Her work Healing by Primary Intention will be exhibited along with other handkerchiefs by artists from around the globe.
The concept of the project, initiated by artists Cecilia Mandrile and Claudia DeMonte, is rooted on the age-old Spanish idiom ‘el mundo es un pañuelo,’ or as we may say in English ‘what a small world.’ It praises serendipitous encounters, moments of discovering personal connections in distant places or unexpected contexts. Celebrating such interconnectedness, and willing to nurture the disappearing tradition of the printed handkerchief, Mandrile and DeMonte invited their mentors, students, and peer artists to share visual contemplations or personal stories on the various notions of homeland. They created a limited edition of 25 handkerchiefs each, asking each invited artist to produce their own handkerchief, and offered their creations in exchange.
Participating artists:
